in the form of an eagle with outstreched wings and tail with hingeds cover, wings and tail with feather ornament, the cover with a seated figure in relief

There are very few published gilt-bronze objects from the Medieval Islamic world. A harness or belt fitting in this technique in the David Collection, Copenhagen, is attributed to Spain or Sicily, (Kjeld von Folsach, Art from the World of Islam in the David Collection, Copenhagen, 2001, no. 585, and a mace head sold in these rooms, Bonhams & Brooks, Islamic Works of Art, 17th October 2001, lot 339. A further example, a gilt bronze plaque depicting fantastical animals attributed to Persia, 7th-9th Centuries, can be found in the Musee du Louvre, Paris (L'Etrange et le merveilleux en terre d'Islam, Exhibition catalogue, Musee du Louvre, 23rd April - 23rd July 2001.
