This bucket is similar to an example that was sold in these rooms, Bonhams, Islamic Works of Art, 13th October 1999, lot 219.

In both examples, the inscription frieze, in this case in copper, is against engraved decoration of extremely high quality. Dating is provided by comparison with the so-called Bobrinski bucket that is dated AH 559/ AD 1163 (Heinrich Gluck and Ernst Diez, Die Kunst Des Islam, Berlin, 1925, pl. XXXIV).
