Atasoy et al write "The most obvious departure from the stylistic norm in the textile design in Ottoman saraser, in the large scale of patterning and size of motifs which showed the opulent expenses of costly gilt and silver-metal thread to best advantage. There is a similar example in the Hermitage Museum, St. Peterburg, depicting huge tulips and artichokes, also with green and outlining (ibid, fig. 188).
