Footnotes

This panel which is probably from the south-western cyclades, is notable for its use of classical Ottoman motifs, namely carnations and tulips. For comparison, see R. Taylor, Embroidery of the Greek Islands, London, 1998, pp. 6 and 166 and ibid pp. 31-55 for a discussion of the subject.
