Atasoy et al suggests that such cushion cover were woven in pairs and sometimes in sets of fours. This is evidenced by the fact that there is a cushion cover that is virtually identical to this example in the Victoria and Albert Museum, London (Atasoy et al, Ipek: The Crescent and the Rose, London, 2001, fig. 357).
