of cylindrical form with square section handle, decorated in shades of cobalt-blue with five floral sprays around the body, a band of reserved cloud scrolls and palmettes around the top and bottom, the handle with a ladder design

The decoration of this tankard is ultimately based on a Chinese 15th Century prototype.

It belongs to a group of wares that have been termed "wheatsheaf style" by Atasoy and Raby (Nurhan Atasoy and Julian Raby, Iznik: The Pottery of Ottoman Turkey, London, 1989, pp. 239-40).
