North India, probably Kashmir, 19th Century

Arabic manuscript on thin paper, 270 leaves, 17 lines to the page written in naskhi script, diacritics and vowel points in black and red ink, gold discs decorated with orange dots between verses, margins ruled in blue, gold and orange, catchwords, illuminated devices in margins, sura headings in blue on gold panels, two double pages of illumination in colours and gold at beginning and end, corners rather thumbed, edges frayed, some rubbing affecting small areas of text, flyleaf at end detached, floral painted binding, with flap
