A large Qur’an section
Ottoman Turkey, 17th/ 18th Century

Arabic manuscript on paper, 26 leaves, 5 leaves later replacement, 7 lines to the page, first, fourth and seventh lines on each page written in bold rayhani/ muhaqqaq script in black ink, remaining text written in neat and clear naskhi, diacritics and vowel points in black and grey, blank spaces between verses intended for illuminated verse markers, catchwords in wide margins, the word ushr written in outer margin in blue and gold, discoloration, slightly creased, later dark green morocco with stamped central medallions decorated with intertwining floral motifs, with flap
388 x 275 mm.

Footnotes

The lack of illuminated verse markers, marginal devices and an illuminated frontispiece suggests that this manuscript was never completed.
