Footnotes
The auxiliary steamship SS EMEU, was built by Robert Napier in Glasgow in 1854 for the new joint venture between Royal Mail Lines and the Pacific Steam Navigation Co. When this foundered, she was sold to Cunard and after being chartered briefly to the European-Australian RMSP Co. was sold to P&O in 1858. Capt. WC Angove was her commander before retiring to become Port officer at Bombay, he was replaced by Captain D Rennoldson, who presented this telescope.
