A Cased Waterline Model of the British India Steamship BANDRA

built by R Wilson to a scale of 25ft to 1in. Hull of timber painted black to the waterline and maroon below, with a white gunwale line. Fine timber decks with incised plank lines. Delicate details include manual/steam anchor windlass, cargo derricks and winches, open bridge with wheel and binnacles, ventilators, ships' boats on davits, single funnel in British India Steam Navigation Co. livery, aft emergency steering position. Set on a moulded, painted sea in a glazed presentation case with maple frame. Includes custom made carrying case and historical data. 59 x 19 x 19cm.(23 x 7.5 x 7.5in.)

SS BANDRA built by Barclay, Curle & Co. Glasgow in 1914 for the British India Steam Navigation Co. Requisitioned soon after building for war service, she served as a troop transport for the Indian Expeditionary Force, return to BI after hostilities. Requisitioned again in WW2 as a transport vessel, she was mined in the Tavoy River in 1946 but managed to limp into port fro repair. Sold out of BI in 1951, she was broken up in Hong Knog in 1952.
