Footnotes

The name Bisquine derives from "Biscayenne" a type of fishing vessel used by fishermen in the Bay of Biscay. Refined and developed by the Breton fishermen, and powerfully rigged to trawl under sail for oysters and scallops, the Bisquine reached it's pinnacle at the end of the 19th century in the craft built at the towns of Cancale and Granville. In 1987 the town of Cancale sponsored the design and building of a replica to act as a roving ambassador for the region. Not to be outdone, the town of Granville commissioned it's own replica, based on the ROSE-MARIEof 1897. Launched in 1990, LA GRANVILLAISE competes at events around the coast and provides sail training for local youth.
