Footnotes
The 90ft. centreboard schooner MAGIC successfully raced against the British challenger CAMBRIA in 1870. At this stage the races for the recently renamed America's Cup were run on the same format as the original, ie. the challenger had to sail over the Atlantic and race against a fleet of defenders. James Ashbury's CAMBRIA faced a fleet of 17 American yachts, finishing tenth overall against R F Loper's MAGIC.
