Footnotes

This shape of decanter is known to have been decorated by James Giles at his London decorating workshop in circa 1772-75. He obtained his glass from William Parker, who in turn is thought to have been supplied by the Whitefriars Glasshouse. The term 'sugarloaf' is a contemporary one.
