Footnotes

According to Geoffrey B. Seddon, The Jacobites and their Drinking Glasses, pp. 97-98, the oak left was an emblem of the Stuart clan and the engraved star represents Prince Charles Stuart. Jacobites would often kiss the star on their glass after drinking the loyal toast.
