Footnotes

The Prince and Marquise are dressed to perform the parts of Acis and Galatea in the opera of that name by Lully, produced at Versailles in 1749. The Marquise was an enthusiastic amateur actor and singer and had two small theatres constructed at Versailles for this purpose. The figures were modelled by Kandler and based on an engraving copied from a lost gouache by Cochin. A similar figure of the Marquise is illustrated by Dr. Erika Pauls-Eisenbeiss, German Porcelain of the 18th Century, p. 229
