Hiera Picra, meaning 'Holy Bitter', is an ancient Greek remedy. The name was later corrupted into many forms, including 'Hickery Pickery' in English. Galen was an early Greek physician whose simplified recipe for the remedy included cinnamon, saffron and Socrotine Aloes
