Harvey Cammell graduated from St Andrews University with a degree in Art History and later qualified as an MRICS professional surveyor of chattels.
Harvey started his career in 1992 when he was appointed junior cataloguer in Phillips' furniture department. In 1996 Harvey joined Bonhams as a general valuer based in the Henley office before moving to work in the London valuation department in this capacity. By the late 1990's he was dividing his time between covering valuations in the UK, and working with the company's Spanish office developing business in Spain and Portugal.
In 2001 Harvey was appointed Managing Director of Bonhams' Chelsea salerooms, and oversaw the incorporation of the Bayswater salerooms following the merger between Bonhams and Phillips.
In 2003 he was brought in as Group Head of Bonhams Furniture, Works of Art and Carpets departments. Harvey oversaw Bonhams' Furniture department go from strength to strength, with a number of high profile consignments such as a fine pair of early 19th century ormolu-mounted ebony cabinets belonging to the family of the Victorian Prime Minister William Gladstone (1808–98), which sold in June 2006 for £431,200. Harvey led the team that undertook the sale of the Savoy Hotel's fittings and furniture which was part of a £100m refurbishment plan. The three-day sale achieved a total of £2m with record prices for many of the lots. He has also managed a number of important auctions including Great Brampton House in Herefordshire held on-site, The Contents of The Cafe Royal, The Sampson & Horne Collection, and The Beurdeley Collection.
In 2011, Harvey was appointed as Group Head of the Art Collections, Estates and Valuations department overseeing the management of Bonhams high net worth clients.
The department has overseen some great success stories over the last decade including outstanding results achieved for a work by Stubbs which fetched £1.9 million; a Salvador Dali painting for £800,000; a John Emms painting which fetched $850,000; a Munch hand-painted etching of 'Madonna' for £1.2m.
The department has also been involved in the consignment and management of a number of single owner collection sales including The Owston Collection, J. Walter Thompson, Hammersons, The Severin Wunderman Collection, and The Roy Davids Collection. Harvey looks after a number of high profile corporate clients including The Houses of Parliament.
Harvey is a Director of Bonhams' UK Board.
