Madeleine Perridge, Head of Antiquities at Bonhams, has worked for the company for over six years. She started in May 2006 as a cataloguer and rose rapidly, taking on the role of acting head of department in 2009 and formally as head of department in June 2010.
She heads an experienced team of four with additional access to a number of consultants who are leaders in their fields. Under her leadership the department's turnover has increased significantly. She has been successful in securing major individual works as well as some highly considered collections such as the Donohue Collection from California. She is an independent expert adviser for the UK Treasure Valuation Committee and was one of the valuers of the Staffordshire Hoard valued at £3.3million.
Prior to joining Bonhams she spent time in the 19th Century painting department of an international auction house and also two London dealerships, one selling Indian and Islamic art and the other dealing in musical instruments.
Madeleine holds a BA (Hons) Classical Archaeology and Ancient History from Somerville College, Oxford University; as well as an MA in History of Art from the Courtauld Institute, London.
