Simon Mitchell joined Phillips in Leeds (now Bonhams) in 1976 with a particular interest in silver. During his career he expanded his specialist knowledge into the jewellery field.

After heading these departments in the North of England for several years, he is also now Bonhams' Regional Director for Yorkshire and the North East, covering an area from Derbyshire up to Northumberland.

He still plays an active part in the sale and valuation of jewellery and silver, highlights of which include a rare Charles II cup and cover sold for £72,000 in 1987, the Lucy Mary Booth collection of jewellery and silver sold in 1981 over five separate sales, an important gem-set tiger finial sold for £390,000 in 2009, and most recently a 1930's diamond-set riviére for £145,000 .
