Daniel Lam, Wine Specialist, Bonhams Hong Kong
Daniel joined Bonhams Hong Kong in 2008 after 18 years in the wine, food and beverage business, working in hotels, restaurants and the wine industry. Since joining Bonhams he has held regular wine auctions and pioneered Hong Kong's first whisky auction and Cognac auctions.
Daniel graduated in hotel management at the Cezar Ritz Hotel Management School in Switzerland and was apprenticed at the iconic Baur Au Lac hotel in Zurich. Returning to Hong Kong he joined five star hotels - the Grand Hyatt and the Conrad – working in their fine dining restaurants.
During his restaurant career, he fell in love with wines and developed his knowledge by completing a WSET higher certificate course in the UK and a diploma course in Hong Kong. In 1996, he was employed by the Wine Institute of Asia, the pioneer wine education organisation in the region, delivering various WSET courses.
Working in the education sector allowed him to meet many wine industry personalities, which eventually lead him to the wholesale and retail sectors where he held senior positions working for the company representing Domaine Baron de Rothschild, and then supermarkets where he learned more about best selling Australian wines.
