Sholto Gilbertson is Senior Specialist of the Bonhams Motoring Department, having joined the Company in 2004 as a Junior in the Automobilia Department, he was promoted to the Motor Car Dept in 2007.
He has handled record-breaking auctions of both collections and individual motor cars, including the Barry Burnett Collection in 2009. Notable motor cars handled include the Ex-Briggs Cunningham 1958 Lister-Jaguar 'Knobbly' BHL 101 (Undisclosed sum), 1961 Aston Martin DB4GT (€1,037,872), 1971 Ferrari Dayton Spyder (£595,500), a barn discovery 1963 Aston Martin DB4 Convertible, estimated at £80,000 – 100,000 and realising £309,500, a Concours restored 1930 Bugatti Type 46 Faux Cabriolet 'Petite Royale' (€632,000) and many others. Sholto also consigned and handled the sale of the 1944 Supermarine Spitfire Tr MkIX 'Gilda' two-seater which achieved £1,739,500 in 2009.
Sholto is very active within the Motoring community, holding membership in the Vintage Sports Car Club, Veteran Car Club and Bentley Drivers Club, he can be found on many motoring events annually including the Tour Britannia, Flying Scotsman and London to Brighton Veteran Car Run. Sholto owns a 1962 Jaguar E-Type Series I 3.8 Roadster, known as the 'Yellow Peril' which is usually seen at most Bonhams Motor Car auctions.
Sholto is also an accomplished auctioneer and handles not only Motor Car sales, but sales for many other Bonhams Departments including Watches, Sporting Guns and Islamic Art.
