Ignition 23, Spring / Summer 2012

A 1961 Aston Martin DB4 GT selling for €1.01 million (£839,960) headed a €7.2m (£5.97m) Paris Sale during Retromobile in February. One month later, 100% of cars consigned for the Oxford sale sold including the ex-Dino De Laurentiis 1961 Ferrari 250GTE S1, ripe for restoration sold at £101,180.

Bentleys headline 30 April at Hendon in the RAF Museum, where new owners are sought for a 1957 S1 Continental Sports Saloon and a 1924 3-Liter Speed Model. The team's 26th annual Monaco sale at the 'Musee de la Collection du Prince' 11 May sees a 1930 Alfa Romeo 6C 1750 Grand Sport Spider Zagato top the bill at the start of Historic Grand Prix weekend.

Leading a full grid of Aston Martins of all types on the 19 May in the annual auction for the marque Newport Pagnell, where over £40m worth of Astons have sold since the inaugural sale in 2000, is a 1991 DB4GT Zagato Sanction II. A 37,000 miles from new 1964 DB5 that has been in the same ownership for 37 years crosses the Bonhams block on 3 June during the Greenwich Concours at Connecticut.

As well as the Daniels Collection, further important collections have also been consigned for the 29 June Goodwood Festival of Speed sale. The Glasius Collection - one of the world's largest private collections of 24 Lotuses amassed by Olav Glasius, among them the ex-Team Lotus Cliff Allison/Keith Hall 1956 XI 'Wide Body' Le Mans. The Pilkington Collection - the last five remaining cars from the collection of the late Sir Antony Pilkington, including Aston Martin DB6 MK2 Vantage Volante, AC Ace-Bristol, MR Series Derby Bentley Tourer, Ferrari Daytona Spider by Autokraft, and his first ever car - a 1951 HRG.
