Issue 5, January - July 2012

Like all great collectors, George Daniels invested more than just money in assembling his remarkable collection of vintage motor cars and bikes. Passion, imagination, persistence, not to mention patience,
all went into the creation of such an historically important group of cars. These were, of course, the very qualities which George applied to the craft that made him famous – the painstaking creation
of some of the world's most desirable watches. The global interest in the sale of the Daniels Collection at Goodwood in June and the world record prices achieved were a true testament to his exquisite
and flawless taste.

Nothing demonstrates the great potential of selling at auction more than a specially marketed single-owner sale. Since the turn of the year, Bonhams has overseen four such sales producing world records and hammer prices far exceeding pre-sale estimates. The Daniels sale at Goodwood, the Wrangham Collection of Japanese netsuke and inros in London, and the 'white glove' sale in Hong Kong of a fabulous collection of Contemporary Chinese Art - all very different – highlighted Bonham's depth of specialist insight. The sale in Edinburgh of the contents of Stobhall House, with items ranging from Jacobite medals to ceramics, from glass to broad swords demonstrated the breadth of knowledge available across the company's 60 specialist departments.
