FORMULA 1 HAT-TRICK
At Bonhams Monaco Sale

The Monaco Sale 'Les Grandes Marques à Monaco'
11 May 2018
Monaco, Villa La Vigie

On 11 May Bonhams offered three Formula 1 cars at its Monaco Sale at the beautiful Villa La Vigie, all of which found new owners.

Monaco is a track inextricably linked to the late, great Ayrton Senna, and Bonhams was privileged to offer both the first and final Monaco Grand Prix cars used by the legendary Brazilian racer at the sale. His final Monaco Grand Prix car, the 1993 McLaren-Cosworth Ford MP4/8A, sold in the room for €4,197,500 after a lengthy and spirited bidding exchange between several international bidders.

The second most valuable lot of the sale was Senna's first Monaco Grand Prix car, the 1984 Toleman-Hart TG184 that sparked his infamous rivalry with Alain Prost. It far exceeded its pre-sale estimate of €750,000-1,000,000, realising an impressive €1,610,000 after an intense bidding battle between several buyers in the grounds of the cliff-top villa.

The final Formula 1 racer offered was the ex-Michele Alboreto, 1987 Ferrari F1/87 Formula 1 racing single-seater that realised €666,666. The car was campaigned by the late and much-loved Michele Alboreto for Scuderia Ferrari, and was one of the last Formula 1 cars to be created at Maranello during Enzo's lifetime.

The sale achieved a total of €14,566,214.
