Guitars owned by 'one of the greatest blues players of all time' to be offered by Bonhams

A group of guitars and vintage amps from the private collection of the late Thin Lizzy legend Gary Moore will be offered at Bonhams Entertainment Memorabilia sale at their Knightsbridge saleroom on 28 June 2017.

Born in Belfast in 1952, Moore was best known for his million selling album Still got the blues in 1990, and the evocative 1978 hit single Parisienne Walkways, as well as being one of the guitarists in the classic rock band Thin Lizzy, Moore also formed part of the line up for Colosseum II and the original Skid Row.

The sale comprises a selection of lots from his extensive collection of instruments and accessories with estimates ranging from £600 to £6,000. Leading the collection for the amps is a Marshall 1962 Limited Edition Jaguar 2 x 12 (£5,000-6,000) and for the guitars, a selection of accoustics from Northern Irish builder George Lowden. (£1,500-2,500).

Also appearing in the collection are a 1982 Fender '57 Reissue Stratocaster (£3,000-3,500) featured on the Live and Montreux, 1997 DVD and CD which was also seen in the promo video for the hit single Out in the Fields alongside Gary's old Thin Lizzy band mate, the late Phil Lynott. Also appearing is an extremely rare Gibson Gary Moore/Dark Fire prototype model (£3,000-5,000) possibly the only one in the world, among a selection of other well documented items.

Stephen Maycock, the consultant for Bonhams Entertainment Memorabilia said of the upcoming sale: 'Following the 100% sales success in 2016 of items from the legendary guitarist's collection, we are delighted to be offering almost 20 more guitars and amps, showing Gary's constant search for different sounds and tones in his music.'

The sale will feature a huge variety of memorabilia documenting the history of rock and pop throughout the ages, including signed posters, stage costumes and drums.
