Guitars owned by 'one of the greatest blues players of all time' to be offered by Bonhams
A group of guitars and vintage amps from the private collection of the late Thin Lizzy legend Gary Moore will be offered at Bonhams Entertainment Memorabilia sale at their Knightsbridge saleroom on 28 June 2017.
Born in Belfast in 1952, Moore was best known for his role as guitarist in British rock band Thin Lizzy, as well as forming part of the line up for Colosseum II and Skid Row. A highly skilled musician with a diverse repertoire ranging from hard rock to jazz, Moore's talents were acknowledged after his death by Bob Geldof, who described him as 'one of the greatest blues players of all time,' adding that 'we won't see his like again.' The singer, songwriter and guitarist would have been 65 next week.
The sale comprises nearly 40 lots from his extensive collection of instruments and accessories with estimates ranging from £600 to £6,000. Leading the collection for the amps is a Marshall 1962 Limited Edition Jaguar 2 x 12 (£5,000-6,000) and for the guitars, a Gibson EB3 Cherry 1962 (£4,000-4,500).
Also appearing in the collection are a 1982 Fender '62 Reissue Stratocaster (£3,000-3,500) featured on the Live and Montreux, 1997 DVD and CD and a Gibson Firebird V Reissue 1990 (£2,500-3,000) played on tour in 2009.
Stephen Maycock, the consultant for Bonhams Entertainment Memorabilia said of the upcoming sale: 'Following the 100% sales success in 2016 of items from the legendary guitarist's collection, we are delighted to be offering almost 40 more guitars and amps, showing Gary's constant search for different sounds and tones in is music.'
The sale will feature a huge variety of memorabilia documenting the history of rock and pop throughout the ages, including signed posters, stage costumes and drums.
