Bonhams is pleased to offer a fine collection of designer handbags from the collection of acclaimed actress of stage and screen, Lauren Bacall. Her love of Paris brought her to Hermès many times, where she purchased the extremely rare brown alligator 'Kelly' 35 handbag (lot 308, estimate $20,000-30,000) in 1990. The handbag, in pristine condition, is accompanied by a signed pouch, optional shoulder strap and gold-toned hardware. The Bacall collection also includes a Hermès black leather toiletry case, 1982 (lot 307, estimate $2,000-3,000), and a Hermès white leather and olive canvas 'Kelly' bag, 1994, (lot 301, estimate $2,000-3,000) as well as handbags by Giorgio Armani, Swarovski, Renaud Pellegrino, Mulberry and Azzedine Alaїa. Rounding out the offering is a Bulgari enamel, diamond and eighteen karat gold melon-form compact purchased by Ms. Bacall in Rome (lot 309, estimate $8,000-12,000).
The Salon Jewelry sale continues with great gift ideas for the holidays. For men, there are several pairs of cufflinks by such makers as Grima, David Webb, and Van Cleef & Arpels. There are a variety of ladies and gentleman's wristwatches as well. For animal lovers is a whimsical diamond and eighteen karat gold squirrel-form brooch (lot 613, estimate $2,000-3,000). A highlight of the sale is a fine sapphire and diamond brooch by one of the earliest and most important metalcrafters of the English Arts & Crafts Movement, Frank Gardner Hale (lot 410, estimate $2,000-3,000). Among other unusual offerings are three G. Argy-Rousseau pate-de-verre "Cigale" pendant necklaces (lots 426, 428 and 430, estimates $1,500-2,000 each).
