Photography at Bonhams in the UK is primarily sold in collaboration with the Printed Book, Map and Manuscript Department. Strongly represented in these auctions are nineteenth century albums, travel photographs including early photographs of India, China, Burma, Japan and South America and other early documentary themes.
Our auctions of early Indian photography have seen some excellent sale results for photographs by Frederick Fiebig, Thomas Biggs, Felice Beato, John Murray, Linneaus Tripe, and others. Also, archives of photographic material relating to Helmut Newton, Francis Bacon and others are amongst the more modern images sold recently.
