Susannah Smith (née Mackworth-Praed), seated in a landscape, wearing black décolleté dress with white lace trim, a strand of large pearls suspended from the back of her dress and fastened at her corsage by a gold and ruby brooch with pearl pendant, her brown hair upswept and curled.
Oil on ivory, gilt-mounted within glazed wooden box frame.
Rectangular, 82mm (3 1/4in) high

Footnote:
Susannah was the fifth child of William and Susannah Mackworth-Praed of Bitton Castle. She married Thomas Smith of Bersted Lodge, South Bersted, Sussex, formerly of Fonthill, Kingston, Jamaica. She kept a diary between 1812-1856.
