The attached letter is to a Mr Burgess, from Fergusson's studio at 83 Rue Notre Dame des Champs, acknowledging payment, and refers to his forthcoming show at the Stafford Gallery and Alexander Jamieson's recent exhibition.
This is a particularly fluid and succinct depiction of the dressmakers and millinery girls Fergusson considered the main attraction at the louche Cafe d'Harcourt in Paris. They wore the fashions they were working on, and the artist loved to sketch them after dinner.
