A .410 take-down Mauser bolt-action gun by John Rigby & Co., no. 2388

Converted from a .303 take-down sporting rifle
Gold-inlaid flag-safety, the Mauser action with thumb-recess and charger-guide (magazine now fixed), figured stock with semi-pistolgrip and steel butt-plate, forend with Deeley-Edge forend fastener, the barrel, engraved John Rigby & Co., 72 St. James's St., London, with open-sights sighted for 200, 300 & 400 yards and block-mounted bead-foresight, the receiver mounted with a later telescope-sight, engraved John Rigby & Co., 43 Sackville Street, London and numbered to the action, in quickly-detachable see-thru mounts

Footnotes

The makers have kindly confirmed that the rifle was completed in 1904 as a .303 take-down rifle, and that the dimensions are as recorded, but that it was not originally 'scoped. As they moved to Sackville Street in 1907, it appears likely that the 'scope was added by the makers about the time of the First World War
