We are seeking an experienced Specialist and business developer to join our Print department handling Old Master, Modern and Contemporary prints. Your primary duty will be to generate consignments for auction. Please find below the key responsibilities and required skills for this role.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities
• Business getting for the department to fulfil the budgets set for the department sales
• Working with the Head of Department on strategies to encourage new business opportunities to grow the sales
• Maintaining and supporting the ongoing development of the client base – both buyers and sellers – for the department
• Maintaining contact with established collectors to encourage further business with the company, either as buyers or sellers
• Maintaining contact with established trade contacts to encourage further business with the company
• Maintaining contact with museum curators in the Print field.
• Liaising with the Head of Department on the production of advertising and marketing campaigns, within the budgets set, to promote the business getting and sales activities of the department
• To satisfactorily complete, as and when required, the valuation of customer's property both in the office and at other venues within the UK, Europe & elsewhere
• Researching and cataloguing artworks and collections, and preparing academic texts to be published in the sale catalogues
• Preparing proposal documents, and working independently and with the Head of Department on pitches for business
• Supporting the team to produce the catalogues to ensure delivery of quality research and cataloguing
• Assisting with exhibitions and events, either in the UK or worldwide as and when required
• Maintaining an awareness of our competitors' strategies to maintain the competitive position of this department in the market and grow Bonhams market share
• Promoting the department through lectures and other promotional events

In addition to the tasks and responsibilities listed, you may be required to perform other duties as assigned by your Manager.

Required Skills / Experience

• A deep knowledge of, and interest in, Prints.
• 5-10 years' experience working in the commercial art world, preferably within an auction house or gallery
• Excellent market awareness
• Proven business acumen and ability to prepare valuations
• A proven network of contacts, and a desire to build and develop said network
• A working knowledge of the auction process and related procedures (import & export regulations, VAT etc.)
• Flexibility to travel, mainly in Europe and overseas
• Fluency in at least one European language
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
• Excellent organisational skills
• Ability to work as part of a team
• Ability to work to tight deadlines and under pressure
• Excellent IT skills: Windows XP, MS Outlook, Powerpoint, Excel
