A position has become available for the role of Department Director in our London Impressionist & Modern Art department.
As Department Director you will effectively manage a team of people, leading by direction and example in a manner that will maximise the efficiency of the team. You will primarily be a proven and effective business getter and able to gather works for the department's two main annual sales in February and June. You should be a visible and known figure in this field and be able to maintain contact with our existing collectors and individuals while actively pursuing new business and buyers for the department. Fostering good relations with trade and professional bodies is essential. Alongside your team you will also assist and oversee the catalogues for each sale and the preparation of the sales catalogue, liaising with the photography and production departments internally to ensure printing and distribution deadlines are met. The role will require the candidate to meet budgeted sale targets to ensure the department runs smoothly and meets all its contractual obligations.
This busy and varied leading role will require a proactive and flexible approach and the ability to prioritise your workload. The successful candidate should be fluent in at least two European languages, be willing to travel extensively within Europe and the UK and, have at least five years auction experience working in Impressionist and Modern Art along with excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral. In addition you will be computer literate with good organisational skills and you will pay great attention to detail.
