Bonhams are seeking an experienced Specialist to join our Picture Department, based in our Knightsbridge saleroom, to cover a period of maternity leave. The specific focus of this role will be on Marine and Travel Pictures.
Duties will include, but not be limited to, business getting for two Marine Sales and one Travel & Exploration Sale per year, to fulfill set budgets; strengthening existing contacts with collectors and dealers, whilst finding opportunities to extend this network further; and working with the Head of Department to identify new business openings for the Department as a whole.
With a thorough knowledge of all aspects of the market and Marine and Travel pictures, you will provide valuations on items, both at the office and at clients' homes and valuation events; and you will catalog works to be sold at auction in an accurate and timely manner, to meet catalog production deadlines. Keeping abreast of competitors' strategies, you will work with the Head of Department on advertising and marketing campaigns, and will assist with events, such as providing lectures on Marine and Travel Pictures, to promote the department generally
The ideal candidate will be an energetic self starter, with a sound knowledge in all aspects of the auction world, and an eye for new business opportunities. With excellent organizational skills, you will maintain a developing database of customers for the department. You will have first class communication skills, and a professional manner. The ability to work as part of a team is essential and sound knowledge of Windows XP and MS Outlook are required. Further languages would be advantageous.
The position is initially available for 6 months, with the possibilitiy of extension.
