A position has arisen for a Junior Cataloguer in our South African & Contemporary African Art department based at New Bond Street. As Junior Cataloguer you will be responsible for cataloguing, researching and co-ordinating property for the South African Sale and Africa Now auctions.
Your responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, assisting with writing and preparing catalogue notes for auction lots and preparing auction viewings and exhibitions. You will work alongside Specialists and assist with managing valuations and gathering information to write sales proposals and marketing initiatives. As part of the role you will need to research property thoroughly using the internet, external expertise and online databases to verify item authenticity, ownership, bibliography, provenance and exhibition history. With first class customer service skills and excellent communication, you will handle client enquiries efficiently and professionally, via the telephone, email, post and in person. With a flair for organising, you will manage the office on a day-to-day basis, undertaking general office duties.
The successful candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in History of Art or related field, with a proven interest and understanding of Modern African Art. This busy and varied role will require a proactive and flexible approach and the ability to prioritise your workload. You must possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral, along with a basic knowledge of MS Office-particularly Outlook, Word and Excel. The role requires excellent research, cataloguing and writing skills with an eye for detail and accuracy.
