Bonhams is seeking a Senior Specialist to assist in the Fine European Furniture, Sculpture and Works of Art department, cataloguing European Furniture, Sculpture and Works of Art for two sales per year, working with an established team of specialists, helping to process the large number of lots sold each year. This is a fixed term contract based between our New Bond Street Saleroom and our Park Royal Warehouse starting May 2013 and ending February 2014 to cover maternity leave.
Duties will include, but not be limited to, assisting with research and catalogue preparation, completing client contracts, and advising clients on the sale of their property on the telephone and by post or email. You will be required to satisfactorily complete as and when required the valuation of customer's property both in the office and at other venues across the UK and Europe. You will prepare condition reports at the time of cataloguing and during pre-sale exhibitions. You will liaise with the appropriate members of the photographic and desktop publishing departments on catalogue production. During sale viewing days you will advise clients on the condition of particular lots. You will be assisting with all aspects of administration, including maintaining control of property in and out of the department, with particular reference to items transferred between branches, as well as maintaining the database. You may be asked to execute telephone bids during the sale and other duties assigned by the Department Director.
You will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills both written and oral. You will have a proactive approach with the ability to prioritise and work well under pressure. You will be computer literate and have a proven keen interest in Fine European Furniture, Sculpture and Works of Art, as well as cataloguing experience to high standards.
