Junior Specialist- Science, Technology & Mechanical Music Department

Bonhams are currently looking for a knowledgeable and enthusiastic Junior Specialist to work within the Science, Technology & Mechanical Music Department based at our Knightsbridge offices.

The role will be handling the day-to-day operations of the department including; assisting with the efficient handling of customer enquiries via telephone, email and post, liaising with experts and other departments to ensure prompt advice and service to our customers, producing catalogs, supervising advertising material and overseeing photography.

Working alongside the Department Director the ideal candidate will conduct appraisals both in person and via email, catalog and research property for sale, write condition reports, negotiate contracts and attend regular appraisal events. There will be expected travel to conduct off-site appraisal events, to find and secure property for future sales and to support our efforts in all of our locations.

Additionally, there will be regular outreach to clients and contacts, research and/or development of relationships with top collectors in the field and other sourcing and marketing projects to provide property to meet our annual sales goals. This person should have customer service experience, and the ability to expand the scope of Bonhams' buyers and sellers.

The successful candidate will have a Bachelor's degree/ Masters in History of Art or related field, with a proven interest and understanding of Mechanical Music & Scientific Instruments.

You will be proactive with a flexible approach to your work with the ability to prioritize your workload. The role requires research, cataloging and writing skills with an eye for detail and accuracy therefore interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal are essential, along with a basic knowledge of MS Office-particularly Outlook, Word and Excel. Previous Auction House experience is advantageous and language skills are desirable.
