We are currently seeking a Specialist to work within the Furniture and Works of Art department in Chester, on strategies to encourage new business opportunities.
Your responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, the valuing of Furniture and Works of Art for sale, insurance and inheritance tax purposes, and the sourcing of items for Furniture sales, through home visits throughout Chester and through valuation days at local offices. You will be required to catalogue items for sale, help with the preparation of sale catalogues, and with the promotion, advertising and development of the department. Administrating the Furniture department including vendor and buyer queries, developing marketing strategies and ensuring the annual budget is met. Co-ordinate setting up the galleries prior to Furniture sales for viewing and auctions as well as assisting the porters with post-sale clear up and buyer collections.
As part of the North West team you will assist other department with valuing and cataloguing lots for other auctions and attend valuations and events where items outside core duties are to be handled, researched and appraised. You will also provide support to the other departments as required during sale days including participating in telephone bidding and customer service roles.
Ideally, you will have previous cataloguing and valuing experience as well as good customer service and excellent organisational skills. Excellent IT skills including the knowledge of Microsoft packages are necessary. You will have a proactive approach with the ability to prioritise and work well under pressure. Good knowledge of Funiture and Works of Art from 18th to 20th Century is preferable.
