Head of Department - Books, Manuscripts and Photographs - Knightsbridge

Bonhams is currently seeking a Head of Books, Manuscripts and Photographs at its Knightsbridge saleroom due to the imminent retirement of the present director.

Leading a highly efficient and professional team of specialists and consultants, you will proactively develop the department's business-getting strategies in both the UK and Continental Europe and build solid relationships with both existing and potential collectors, clients, trade and professional bodies. You will oversee the production of sales catalogues within tight deadlines, work within agreed department budgets, and liaise with the Managing Director on any staff issues. In addition, you will be responsible for planning the smooth running of pre-sale exhibitions at the Knightsbridge and Oxford salerooms, hosting special events and producing innovative business winning proposals when required.

A key priority of this post will be to develop strong working relationships with colleagues in our New York and Los Angeles book departments to formalise a worldwide strategy for the sale of important individual books and libraries

Good leadership, interpersonal and team-building skills are vital, as are an innovative approach and awareness of developments within the books industry.
