European Sculpture and Works of Art

The department devotes its auctions to a broad range of European and British sculpture and works of art spanning in date from the 12th to the 19th century. Our sales encompass early works of art and Old Master sculpture from the Gothic, Mediaeval and Renaissance period, through to the 19th century and sometimes beyond. This wide spectrum of stylistic influences also features items of Baroque, Rococo, Empire and Neo-Classical origins, as well as works from the New Sculpture movement.

Our expertise extends to handling sculpture and objects in a variety of mediums including ivory, marble, alabaster, stone, wood, terracotta, bronze and plaster. The decorative objects such as urns and tazze worked in materials such as ormolu, enamel and pietre dure. The department also focuses on more functional objects such as candelabra and other lighting, chimneypieces, fire-grates, desk sets, boxes and tea caddies.
