19th Century Paintings
The 19th Century Paintings department at Bonhams Auctioneers sells a wide variety of paintings, drawings and watercolors by the foremost artists of the 19th and early 20th centuries. The department holds four sales worldwide in addition to a number of specialist auctions including Marine and Sporting paintings, as well as a unique annual sale of Dog paintings held in February each year in our prestigious Madison Avenue rooms. We also offer 19th Century paintings through four dedicated British and European Picture sales a year at our Knightsbridge saleroom.
These auctions encompass the full spectrum of Victorian and European painting, from traditional English landscapes and works from the Pre-Raphaelite movement, through to the glory of Edwardian portraiture. The catalogs also reflect the major movements in Continental Europe, with works from the Dutch Romantic school and Orientalist pictures, Scandinavian painters, French and German painting and works by the diverse Spanish and Italian masters of the nineteenth century.
Our experienced specialists and knowledge of the market and collectors ensures that Bonhams has a proven track record of outstanding prices. With specialists in New York and London and more salerooms and sales than any other auctioneer, we are able to market our auctions to the widest possible international audience.
