The 19th Century Paintings department at Bonhams sells a wide variety of paintings, drawings and watercolours by the foremost artists of the 19th and early 20th centuries. The department holds four sales per annum; two in London in January and July and two in New York in April and late October.
Our extensively researched and carefully curated catalogues feature works from the full spectrum of Victorian and European painting. From traditional English landscapes and works from the Pre-Raphaelite movement, through to the glory of Edwardian portraiture and the modern masters of British Impressionism. The catalogues also reflect the major movements in Continental Europe, with works from the Dutch Romantic school and Orientalist pictures, Scandinavian painters, French and German painting and works by the diverse Spanish and Italian masters of the nineteenth century.
Our experienced specialists and knowledge of the market and collectors ensures that Bonhams has a proven track record of outstanding prices. With specialists in New York and London and more salerooms and sales than any of our major competitors, we are able to market our auctions to the widest possible international audience.
