Scottish Art

In 2011, Bonhams secured market leadership in Scottish Art with exceptional selling rates, and sales well in excess of £4 million.

Scottish art sells best in Scotland. The auctions in April, August and December are previewed in New Bond Street, London, and in Glasgow to ensure appropriate exposure before being offered in Bonhams' Edinburgh salerooms, the finest in the country. Bonhams staged the first dedicated Four Scottish Colourists auction to be held anywhere since 1998, and our New York preview confirmed the international appeal of these artists. Prices attained for Peploe, Cadell and Fergusson were among the highest ever achieved on the open market.

Bonhams' annual Scottish Sale has become the premier sale of its type and has in the past achieved record prices for artists as significant as Carse, Leslie Hunter, Cursiter and Gillies. Other artists in particular demand are Eardley, Redpath and Morrocco.
