Modern British and Irish Art

Bonhams hold two major auctions each year of the very best of Modern British painting, sculpture and drawing. These carefully curated sales take place at our New Bond Street premises, London, in spring and autumn.

From Edwardian Art to the Neo-Romantics, The Bloomsbury Group, Post-War, Constructivists, The London School, Kitchen Sink, St Ives and Camden Town, we offer a wide range of artists and movements through these dedicated sales. The department is proud to hold a number of world auction records for works on paper by Henry Moore, Laurence Stephen Lowry, Paul Nash, William Roberts and John Craxton. We have also achieved the top prices at auction for artists such as Sheila Fell, Gillian Ayres, Winifred Nicholson, Tristram Hillier, Euan Uglow and John Minton among others.
Previously sold highlights include Henry Moore's marble Mother & Child which commanded £1,069,600 and Looking Toward Mornington Crescent Station by Frank Auerbach (£1,059,082).
Bonhams are delighted to also offer Modern British & Irish Art through four dedicated sales a year at our Knightsbridge saleroom.

Our team of specialists are based in London and primarily supported by our operations in New York, California, Canada and Dublin as well as our network of regional offices. They travel regularly and have extensive experience advising private collectors as well as corporate and public institutions on all aspects of their collections.
