Established in 2013 following the resounding success of the Voyages of Discovery sale where 15 major works by Chu Teh Chun and Zao Wou-ki sold at exceptional prices, with Chu Teh-Chun's L'Odeur du Ciel No.1, 1982 achieving HK$9.62 million, Bonhams' Asian Contemporary Art department is committed to bringing high level artworks from both renowned and emerging artists in Asia to the market.
We offer carefully curated sales twice a year in Hong Kong, the center for selling Asian contemporary art. The sales are headlined by some of the most recognized contemporary artists such as Zeng Fanzhi, Zhou Chunya, and Liu Ye from China and Ronald Ventura from the Philippines. Works by promising emerging artists including Tu Hongtao or Chen Ke are also highlighted to add breath and depth to our sales. They feature a full spectrum of media, from oil painting to photography or sculpture, often realizing top prices with Zeng Fanzhi's Portrait, an oil on canvas, achieving HK$4.84 million at the November 2013 sale.
Our international team of specialists based in Hong Kong, New York and London comes with a wealth of experience and an extensive and diverse network. We offer professional advice on all aspects of buying and selling with a view on current prices in this vibrant art market.
