Due to the overwhelming response to the Sale of Nelson and the Royal Navy on
5 July, which achieved a sale total of £1.8-million and five world record
prices, Bonhams is delighted to announce a further auction to be held during Trafalgar Week.
The auction at Bonhams, 101 New Bond Street, London, will contain a wide
range of fine and decorative art relating to Nelson and the Royal Navy
during the period 1750-1815.
As the nation celebrates the 200th anniversary of The Battle of Trafalgar
and the opening of the Greenwich Maritime Museum's exhibition "Nelson and
Napoleon" , demand for Nelson related memorabilia has never been higher. The
records acheived by Bonhams in its July auction substantiate this appetite.
They were:
£179,200 - An exceptional cased Lloyd's Patriotic Fund Trafalgar Sword and
Belt of £100 Value to Charles Tyler Esq, Captain of HMS Tonnant
£95,200 - John Steven Dews (British, b. 1949), The Battle of Trafalgar - HMS
"Victory" breaking the enemy line and raking the stern of the French
flagship as she goes through, oil on canvas, 101.6 x 167.6cm (40 x 66in)
£95,200 - The official replacement Naval Gold Medal for Trafalgar awared to
Captain Eliab Harvey, in command of HMS Temeraire.
£60,000 - A George III silver oval meat dish from Nelson's Nile service, by
Paul Storr, London 1800
£26,400 - A George III silver circular plate from Nelson's Nile service, by
Paul Storr, London 1800.
