Bonhams are the only international auction house to hold dedicated sporting auctions. The sporting department is based in Chester and holds three auctions per year containing items of sporting memorabilia from various sports including boxing, rugby, tennis, snooker and Olympic Games but with the majority of items relating to football and cricket. There are also three dedicated auctions for golf and golfing memorabilia. The torch, which carried the flame for part of the last stretch of its journey from Greece to Wembley for the opening ceremony of the 1948 London Olympics went for over £2,000.
