Internship Opportunities
"The ultimate hands-on experience for someone with an interest in art." states a former Bonhams & Butterfields intern.
The purpose of our internship program is to introduce the student of art and art history to the world of art appraising and merchandising. Interns will work with specialists in a chosen field of interest where they will gain an overall perspective of the auction business.
The internships available from season to season are subject to change. We anticipate the following specialty departments at our San Francisco gallery will offer internships:
Fine Arts
Asian Arts
Furniture & Decorative Arts
Ethnographic Arts (Native American, Pre-Columbian & Tribal)
Jewelry
Public Relations
Program Requirements
Open to junior and senior undergraduates, graduate students and college graduates.
International applicants are welcome. In order to be eligible to work in the United States, the selected candidate must have either a J-1 or F-1 visa.
Internship Sessions
Summer: June - mid-August; application deadline: April 10
Autumn: September - mid-December; application deadline: August 1
Spring: February - mid-May; application deadline: December 15
Program Schedule & Compensation
15 hours per week, preferably 2 full days
If intern is a student participating in the Program to receive course credit, the intern will receive $10 per 7½-hour workday as a stipend.
If intern is participating in the Program for any other reason, for every hour worked, the intern will be paid the current local minimum wage.
