Irish Art
Our June sale realised some excellent prices, confirming that Bonhams/Adams is still the place to buy and sell Irish art.
A new world auction record of €59,000 was achieved for Aloysius O’Kelly, while €50,000 was the winning bid for Erskine Nicol’s superb ‘Fly Fishers’ (against an estimate of €35,000-45,000). The traditional sector performed well with other highlights including Sir Gerald Festus Kelly’s ‘Ma Si Gway IX’ which fetched €35,000 following competitive bidding both in the room and on the phone. An important portrait by Roderic O’Conor was offered as a rare opportunity to acquire a pastel by this artist, making €20,000. The Estate of Theo Snoddy was also well received with ‘The Saw Sharpener’ (1917) by Jack B Yeats realising a hammer of €68,000.
