Footnote:
The very scarce first Dutch edition of Kirchner's China Monumentis, not recorded by Cordier who lists only the Dutch edition of the following year, often leading to its being misdescribed as the first. The fine plates and two maps, here with contemporary hand-colouring and heightened with gold, are from the Latin edition of the same year, and are complete as called for in the instructions to the binder (but without a portrait found in some copies of the other editions).
