A very rare early 19th century brass-lined rosewood mantel timepiece with original, numbered mahogany outer travelling case with recess brass handle

The stepped chamfered top over a ripple moulded cornice and brass-mounted chamfered angles to a moulded and brass-lined base on cast brass acorn feet, the arched 2.75 inch silvered dial with minute track and regulation arbor over a copperplate signature between XI and I, with Roman numerals and blued steel moon hands, set above an engraved mask of elaborate interlinked foliate scrolls, the single chain fusee movement with arched rectangular plates united by four turned cannon-barrel pillars, terminating in a half-deadbeat escapement with rise-and-fall regulation to the chamfered steel rod-pendulum with brass bob, the movement frontplate stamped with Vulliamy's foremost movement suppliers mark 'HOLMDEN, LONDON, 429'. Together with the original mahogany travelling case of dovetailed construction, the deep lid with recessed folding brass handle, opening to reveal an interior with shaped lower section to accept each of the four acorn feet and with central recess to hold the key, the lid interior and each corner felt-lined to give added protection in transit.
